Wastewater vs. Stormwater

What is Wastewater?
Wastewater (also known as sewer water) is the water you flush down your toilet and the water that goes down your drain. We collect wastewater through the sewer system and pump stations that delivers to the wastewater treatment plant.

What is Stormwater?
Stormwater is rainwater that is not absorbed into the ground. Stormwater runoff is rain that flows off buildings, driveways, lawns, streets, parking lots, and construction sites. This runoff makes its way to nearby streams or storm drains.  Most storm drains inside City limits are maintained by South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Please contact Public Works to help determine what government entity should be contacted if an issue arises.
