The City of Newberry Utilities Electric Division provides reliable electric service to residential and commercial customers within City limits. We have 2 substations and approximately 281 miles of primary distribution lines. We provide electricity to approximately 5,313 customers. The City of Newberry was the first municipality to run fiber optics to our customers in South Carolina. We have partnered with WCTel GIGUP Newberry to be the preferred provider offering internet services to our residents on our fiber optic network.

Our Electric Line Crew consists of 7 highly skilled Linemen. We currently have 1 Fiber Optic Technician and 1 Utility Locator on staff.

We are a member city of Piedmont Municipal Power Agency (PMPA) where we purchase our wholesale electric power.  In 1979 PMPA was formed with ten member cities and owns a 25% share of the Catawba Nuclear Power Plant Unit #2 In York, SC. Purchases from PMPA constitutes most of our power.

Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA) generates power by the Corps of Engineers from dams on the Savannah River. We also purchase a small portion of our required power from SEPA.
