Sanitation

The City of Newberry offers the following services to those located within the city limits. Additional information can be obtained by clicking on the specific service.

RESIDENTIAL SANITATION POLICY
Mobile carts are to be placed within 4-6 feet of the curbside with the lid opening facing the street. Carts must be placed out by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection or the evening before and removed by 9:00 p.m. on the day of collection. Do not put dirt, limbs, brush or debris inside of the roll cart(s). Only household refuse for disposal should be placed into the mobile cart. Only city-issued carts will be emptied. 
ITEMS NOT COLLECTED
The following materials will not be picked up during residential collection. It is the responsibility of the resident to dispose of these items properly by taking them to the Newberry County collection and recycling center sites. PAINT will only be picked up if paint is dry in container. It can be mixed with dirt, sand or kitty litter to solidify.
Yard Waste Collection
Information
The City of Newberry collects yard waste disposed of by city residents. Items collected include grass clippings, leaves and limbs. Place your items in separate piles at least three feet away from other obstacles such as mailboxes, utility poles and automobiles. Limbs should be separated from leaves. Tree limbs, tree trunks and other such debris cannot be longer than eight feet in length, nor have diameters greater than twelve inches.

Yard waste should NOT be placed in the street, gutter, ditch, sidewalk, nor on properties other than the premises of the depositor. 

PLEASE NOTE: All building material, refuse or debris resulting from home repairs, remodeling, or any kind of construction shall be moved by the hired contractor, owner of the property, or person completing the work.
Bulk Waste Collection
Furniture
Furniture such as chairs, sofas, mattresses, old wooden or wire fences with post, cardboard boxes, light metals such as swing sets, etc. need to be placed at the edge of the owner's property easily accessible to the city's collection personnel and equipment. 

The property owner will be responsible for notifying the Public Works department that such material has been placed where designated for collection. DO NOT place near utility poles, street signs, trees, fire hydrants, on water meters or in ditches.
Appliances
Appliances and any metal type objects such as bicycles, hot water heaters, metal beds, air conditioners, lawn mowers, etc. will be picked up on Fridays only. The property owner will be responsible for notifying the Public Works department that such material has been placed where designated for collection. 
Leaf Collection
Information
Leaves are seasonal and may be placed at the front of the premises in the grass strip between the street and the sidewalk where such strips are available. Otherwise, they should be placed at the edge of the owner's property easily accessible to the city's collection personnel and vacuum equipment.

DO NOT place leaves near utility poles, under guy wires, street signs, trees, fire hydrants, in ditches, or on water meters. 

Do NOT mix leaves with limbs, sticks or any other type rubbish, metal or paper, as this may cause hoses to burst, tear or detach. Leaves should not be placed on the street where it may create a traffic hazard.
