The City of Newberry’s drive-thru window at City Hall will now have extended hours several times per month, according to Finance Director Shannon Smith.
During these times, the drive-thru window will open at 8:00 a.m., allowing 30 extra minutes for customers to make payments or ask questions prior to the physical building being open.
Many mornings per month, Smith said the parking lot at City Hall can become congested and staff felt by opening early several days a month that they could better serve customers.
City Manager Matt DeWitt said the initiative was something the department came up with on their own.
“We have challenged all city staff to be more customer service oriented and I am happy to see this type of willingness to better serve our citizens exhibited by our staff,” DeWitt said.
Monday, July 16, Smith said was the first effort in opening early and they were pleased.
“We helped several customers before 8:30 on that morning, therefore making room for more in the parking lot so it wouldn’t become so congested,” Smith said.
For the remainder of the year, the drive-thru window will open at 8:00 a.m. on the following dates:
- July 30
- August 8, 15, 27
- September 10, 17, 27
- October 9, 16, 29
- November 7, 19, 28
- December 6, 19, 27
Smith said the dates will also be posted at the drive-thru window for customers to see when making payments. A reminder will also be placed within future bill messages mailed to customers.
