oldpic2_copyWhile Newberry may be considered a small town, it has plenty to offer whether you prefer the great outdoors, the great indoors, sitting back and taking in a show, or getting up and getting hands-on. Points of interest in and around Newberry include:

  • Downtown Newberry: Not only can you shop, dine, and be entertained in Historic Downtown Newberry, but you can also take time to discover our many historic buildings, some dating back to the 1800's. Need help finding parking in downtown? Visit our GIS Parking Map for guidance!
  • Newberry Arts Center: Established in 2014, the center has become a popular addition to downtown with programs for all ages and the work of professional instructors, accomplished students, and other local artists for sale.
  • Newberry Community Players: Founded in 1970, The Newberry Community Players is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing the opportunity to kids, teenagers, and adults to attend and participate in live theater in Newberry County. The Players meet in the Ritz Theater, a National Historic Registry site and downtown's 1930s era movie house.
  • Newberry Firehouse Conference Center: The Newberry Firehouse was once the district fire station but is now an elegant, high-tech conference center and event venue.
  • The Newberry Museum: Newberry's official history museum including information on the county, municipalities, and Newberry College.
  • Newberry Opera House: The Newberry Opera House hosts dozens of performances each year from musicals and operas, to rock concerts and beach tunes. The Opera House has been a part of the Newberry community for over 100 years and is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
  • Enoree River Winery: A popular spot for locals as well as out-of-town visitors, the winery invites you to enjoy a wine tasting in their tasting room and tour the vineyard grounds. The winery also welcomes weddings, corporate events, birthdays, and special events.
  • Carter & Holmes Orchids: Carter & Holmes is one of the premier producers and suppliers of orchids in the United States and can be found just south of downtown Newberry.
  • Wells Japanese Garden: The Wells Japanese Garden is a quaint Newberry landmark and is an excellent example of both a historic design and a vernacular landscape. Visit anytime, no admission
  • Outdoor Recreation: The Midlands region of South Carolina offers a wealth of outdoor beauty and fun for you and your family to explore. Newberry's prime location, in the center of it all, lets you have a new adventure every day!

Tennis in Newberry, SCThe Oakland Tennis Center is managed by the City of Newberry Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department, and is home to City of Newberry Tennis Programs and Newberry College Wolves Tennis. The facility features 9 Musco LED lighted courts (6 asphalt hard courts and 3 hybrid ClayTech tennis courts) as well as restrooms and a pro shop. The facility is located in the historic Oakland neighborhood. Call 803.321.3890 for more information.

Golf in Newberry, SC

Newberry County has two 18-hole golf courses: Country Club of Newberry is located at 4012 Nance Street, Newberry, SC 29108. Call 803.276.2385 for rates and to secure a tee time. The Mid Carolina Country Club is located on the frontage road of Exit 82 on I-26 near Prosperity, SC, and is open for public play on weekends and after 2 pm on weekdays. Lakes & Rivers Near Newberry, SCLake Murray - This 50,000-acre man-made lake is just a few minutes' drive from Newberry and offers boating, swimming, and some of the finest largemouth and striped bass fishing in the south. Public access found at Sunset Road Recreational Area and Kempson's Bridge on Hwy 395. Visit for more information.

Lake Greenwood - Discover Lake Greenwood's miles of scenic shoreline, located in the southwestern corner of Newberry County. This lake is a great place to enjoy year-round boating and fishing. It's also home to the Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area, which provides camping facilities (for both tent and RV camping), playgrounds, several large picnic shelters, and an educational center, the John & Holly Self Drummond Conservation Education and Conference Center, that teaches about the history of our nation's state parks and other conservation projects.

Parr Shoals Reservoir - The Par Reservoir is a 4,400 man-made lake on the Broad River, operated by SCE&G. Public access is available at 2 boat ramps off Broad River Road. Cannons Creek Landing ramp offers a parking area, shelter, and restroom while Heller's Creek ramp has limited parking. Ramps can be found near 

Saluda River - Newberry County is bordered on the south by the Saluda River, which offers natural beauty, and A public boat ramp for the Saluda River is located at Higgin's Bridge just off Hwy 121 south of Silverstreet. Access is also available at the Saluda River Resort (803-276-7917).

Enoree & Tyger Rivers - Sumter National Forest is home to public access to the Enoree River Canoe Trail and Tyger River Canoe Trail. Both have access points in Newberry County.
Nature Trails & Parks Around Newberry, SCPalmetto Trail - The Palmetto Trail is an excellent way to explore the state's history and enjoy its natural beauty, connecting mountains to the sea. Newberry hosts 4 portions of this state treasure. In the City Limits visit the Newberry Passage, an urban trail that travels through downtown, serving as a gateway to the upstate portion of the trail. Other trails in the county include the Peak to Prosperity Passage, Lynch's Woods Passage, and Enoree Passage. Visit the Palmetto Trail website for details on nearby routes.

Lynches Woods Park - Lynch's Woods, a nearby 276-acre forest preserve, has hiking and equestrian trails, sheltered picnic areas, and a portion of the Palmetto Trail. The park is open from sunup to sundown and admission is always free. Although the County of Newberry does not have an official website for this park, you can find a trail guide here.

Dreher Island State Park - This state park consists of three islands in Lake Murray linked to the shore by a causeway and two bridges. Enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, and picnicking at this beautiful, must-see park. The park offers fully-furnished lakeside villas as well as two lake front camping areas. Sumter National Forest - The Sumter National Forest covers 56,595 acres in Newberry County alone and provides complete outdoor recreational activities including hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, equestrian trails, picnicking, bird-watching, and primitive camping. Recreational Parks in the City of NewberryIn addition to our newest addition, the Newberry Recreation Complex, the PRT department maintains and additional 15 parks. Park lands encompass over 200 acres that range from scenic passive to ball fields to parks with playground equipment, shelter, and walking tracks. Everybody loves a good celebration, so the City of Newberry gives people great reasons to celebrate. The following are City of Newberry sponsored (and beloved) annual events:


Christmas in Newberry is a magical time of year! The season kicks off with Main Street Lights: Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, located in front of Community Hall, through festive song and fellowship. Main St. is transformed for an evening of Christmas fun! You can peruse Downtown for early Christmas shopping treasures and bring your family for a bite to eat after the show! Annually we have new additions to our Downtown décor and plenty to do for all ages. After the lighting be sure to stick around for street musicians playing your favorite Christmas tunes. Be sure to come back and visit downtown on Fridays in December for North Pole Nights- visit Santa by our faux snow machines and stay for storytime with Mrs. Claus. The Newberry Pork in the Park features mouth-watering BBQ from across the southeast and gives you a chance to taste the competitors' best! You and your family can also enjoy live music as well as kids' inflatables and activities. Bring your family out to feast on some of the best barbecue in the South! Held annually in April.
SUMMERNewberry Juneteenth celebrates freedom at this annual street festival  features Black owned businesses that represent and elevate our Newberry community, including delicious cuisine and quality arts, live locally grown entertainment, and history on the importance of this day of independence. Celebrate culture and community with us! Details coming soon.
FALLThe Newberry Oktoberfest is a festival celebrating German heritage in Newberry, with enough art, entertainment, and children's activities to satisfy the whole family! And the best part is that it's all for free! This festival has seen crowds of over 20,000, making it Newberry's largest event, so come on down and join this year's fun!
