New Businesses

New businesses in the City of Newberry must first obtain a Business License through the Accounting Office. If the business is occupying a new building, they will follow the description provided under Building Construction for the required process. Those intending to occupy an existing structure, even if it is the same business type, must request an inspection by the City of Newberry Building Inspector and Fire Marshal. These inspections help ensure that the building is incompliance with the Building Code for the prescribed use, and the use meets the Zoning Ordinance. Once the inspections are done and any required corrections are made a new Certificate of Occupancy will be issued.

If the building is in the Downtown Historic District any exterior modifications must be submitted to and approved by the Architectural Review Board. This includes all of the exterior building signage.
