Numerous recreational opportunities, a mild climate and 300 days of sunshine in a small-town atmosphere ... is it any wonder so many Newberry residents take to the great outdoors to compete, lie in the sun, watch or relax?
Newberry offer locals and visitors alike innumerable opportunities to play — antique shops, art galleries, fine dining, concerts, numerous parks and local collegiate athletics. Golf, a local passion evidenced by the area's fine courses — and a number of community team sports allow you to unwind or wind up in Newberry.
  • Newberry Opera House
    The Newberry Opera House has been the heart of the city for more than 100 years. Built in 1882, the historic structure's French Gothic clock tower dominates Newberry's skyline. The structure underwent a $5.5 million renovation in 1995, which not only restored it to its original splendor but helped transform it into a state-of-the-art performance facility.
  • Newberry College Newberry College’s 90 acre campus is located on College street just north of Historic Downtown Newberry. With 20 majors, 25 areas of concentration, and 29 minors, 840 students and a 13:1 student/faculty ratio, Newberry College ensures that students gain individual attention and guidance within its faith-based curriculum.
  • Carter & Holmes Orchids
    Bill Carter and Owen Holmes began selling orchids as cut flowers in the years after World War II, when corsage flowers were in great demand for Valentine's Day, Easter and Mother's Day. Today, Carter & Holmes ship orchid plants of many genera to hobbyists and commercial growers throughout the United States and to many countries around the world.
  • Lynches Woods 
    This forest preserve is located just east of the city, off US 76.  There are horse trails, as well as designated loops for hikers and bikers. The bike loop offers many technical challenges, taking the area’s best bicyclists about 40 minutes to complete the 6.1 miles. Lynches Woods is part of the 425 mile long Palmetto Trail that traverses SC from the mountains to the sea.
  • Newberry County Historical Museum
    The Newberry County Museum Association was organized on May 20, 1995 with a mission to establish a Newberry County Museum.  On November 1, 1997 the City of Newberry agreed to lease the E. S. Coppock house to the Museum Association for housing a museum.  The Coppock house, circa 1820, stands on five acres of land overlooking down town Newberry, and includes the old Water and Lights building, circa 1929. The Gauntt House is also situated on this tract of land.
  • Golf
    Newberry County has two 18-hole golf courses. A par 72 facility is located at The Country Club of Newberry, 4012 Nance Street, Newberry, SC 29108 (803)276-2385. The Mid Carolina Country Club is on the frontage road of Exit 82 on I-26, near Prosperity, (803)364-3193 and is open for public play on weekends and after 2:00 PM on weekdays. A 9-hole course is located in Whitmire at the Whitmire Golf Course, Hwy 121, Whitmire, (803)694-3966.
  • Enoree River Vineyard
    Located just 4 miles from downtown Newberry, the Enoree River Vineyard features wines ranging from country fruit wines to Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Enoree River Vineyard invites you to visit, take a tour and sample some wine. Open Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00AM-6:00PM. Call (803) 276-2855.
