Sewer Backups and Homeowner's Insurance |

While sewer backups in homes are rare occurrences, they can and do happen from time to time. In most cases the City of Newberry has no liability and is not responsible for damages on private property. However, homeowners can take proactive measures to protect themselves and their property by contracting with a licensed plumber to install a backflow preventer on their sewer lateral. Such a device allows wastewater to flow only in one direction, away from your residence. In addition, riders for homeowners insurance covering floods/sewer backups, etc can be added to homeowner’s policies at a nominal cost. Check with your homeowners insurance agent for details. |
