Main Street Lights

6pm-8pm the Friday Before Thanksgiving
November 18th, 2016

Christmas is coming to Downtown Newberry; celebrate the start of the season with lights!

Our town boasts an amazing downtown lights set up for the Holiday season. Starting just outside of downtown, Main Street is lined with banners and bells that lead you into the downtown district. Once in downtown you’ll see an array of lit figures; ice skaters dancing in our downtown parks and around our library; carolers and a carriage around the historic Opera House; and a welcoming “Merry Christmas” in lights! Our Memorial Park is decorated with wreaths decorated with bows and bells and lighted Christmas trees surrounding the park. And of course the crowning glory of our Christmas décor is the Community Christmas Tree, covered in thousands of colorful bulbs, strung with garland, and surrounded by large boxed presents. Downtown Newberry is a sight to be seen during the Holidays.

In addition to the elements listed above, we'll be bringing back our faux snow machines! Thanks to technology developed by movie makers, we're planning to have faux snowfall in Memorial Park on our special "North Pole Nights"- Friday nights in December until Christmas. The "fake snow" really sets the mood for Christmas shopping downtown. The material used is known as "dry snow" and is the result of a chemical process very similar to a foam machine. The result is realistic looking snow falling slowly to the ground, where it will evaporate after five to seven minutes. The snow is non-toxic and biodegradable and comes from 2 machines that masquerade as vintage style lamp posts.

Be sure to check out our events calendar for our special North Pole Nights from 6pm-8pm on Fridays in December. Come downtown for faux snow and pictures with Santa in Memorial Park and Story Time with Mrs. Claus at the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce office in Community Hall.

Main Street Lights is from 6pm-8pm on the Friday before Thanksgiving, November 18th, 2016!

Starting at 6:00 pm downtown will be transformed into a mini-festival. Local vendors will be selling and giving away a variety of goods, from fresh wreaths and garlands, to free hot chocolate and popcorn. We’ll have new additions to our Downtown décor including a new ornament “sculpture” in Astwood Park as well as old favorites like our faux snow machines in Memorial Park.

The Official Tree Lighting Ceremony of Main St. Lights begins at 6:30 pm, accompanied by local choruses and a special guest from WISTV News. Help us light our Community Christmas Tree, located in front of Community Hall, through festive song and fellowship. After the lighting be sure to stick around for street musicians playing your favorite Christmas tunes. You don’t want to miss this iconic Downtown Newberry Holiday event!
